Spiny Spooner Crab (Etisus dentatus)

Hello all! I'm excited to finally post what I've been working on during the pandemic. This gal is a spiny spooner crab.

I was originally drawn to this particular crab because I wanted a project where I could practice my sculpting skills in ZBrush, learn some basic grooming with Xgen, and complete an organically textured creature. I think I still have a lot to learn, but I'm pretty happy with the results! :)

I started my crab from a 3D scan that I found online, and retopologized the mesh before projecting all the details I could. After that I started adding my own details in ZBrush and Mari. The texturing was definitely the most fun part, and I can't wait to work on more creatures! I used a PBR texturing workflow with the Mari nodes system. I was also responsible for the look development, lighting, and rendering in Maya/V-Ray.
